Each year in the Bahamas, there is a large Family Island Regatta that features sail boats that are usually built by the men on the individual islands. The race starts with the boats at anchor. When starting gun is fired, the anchors and sails are raised simultaneously. The boats have little or no keel so the men on the prine balance the boat.

The inspiration for this painting came from the big band music my mother loved. She was
always singing from the 40"s as she puttered around the house. As a result I still remember many of the songs and I think of her each time I hear them.
